Today I was approached by an ambassador from a well-known, trusted charity organization that worked to feed malnourished children in underdeveloped countries. Before I went off to where I was supposed to be, they quickly spun out the guilt-trapping statistic, “x number of children die every second due to this condition”. It was then when I asked myself, if I don’t donate now, am I the one who is killing these malnourished children, or am I simply allowing it to happen? Is it unethical of me to walk away and not donate at all?
Being ignorant of the cause is obviously freeing, but a part of leading and creating healthy communities includes an aspect of generosity and human morality.
